History

In the begining, there was Intelligent Medical Systems, Inc., of Alpine, Texas (IMS).

Founded in 1992 by Dr. Anthony Sforza, a physician with over 30 years of experience practicing medicine, IMS became the birth place of SmartDoctor®. Before becoming a M.D. Dr. Sforza started his professional career as an aeronautical engineer which provided him with essential technical skills that included software development. His technical experience combined with his extensive medical resume, uniquely positioned him to launch the next generation of Electronic Medical Records.

Knowing the frustration and inefficiency in documentation and billing for small practices, Dr. Sforza decided to develop a simple, easy-to-use system that would reduce the burden on practicing physicians while improving the quality of patient care.

The initial SmartDoctor® site went live in Salinas, California in 1996. Since that time, SmartDoctor® has been deployed at sites across the U.S..

In 2006 it was decided to dissolve IMS and reorganize it's assets and staff into a new entity. Thus ACUMEDX Medical Information Systems, Inc. was created. All sales, support and development responsibilities for SmartDoctor® have been transferred to ACUMEDX.
